Art & Environment Committee
The Art & Environment Committee is responsible for designing and decorating the
sanctuary and church for feast days. They put up the colored banners on the outside poles, hang the colored drapes and strips
of fabrics behind the crucifix. They also take care of the plants in the church, make the floral displays, change the altar
cloths according to the seasons. Joining our committee is a great way to meet new people, learn about the church seasons,

Bible Study
Join A Bible Study!
When was the last time you read a book in the old Testament? Join an interactive bible study on the Book of Judges.
No previous Bible knowledge or study experience is necessary! The introductory meeting will be September 4th 7:00 -
8:30 pm in the Raphael room. Kurt Heinrich will speak at the first meeting to bring everyone up to date on
the events leading up to the book of Judges. Bible study meets the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month. For more

Beautifies and maintains the parish grounds and buildings. Meets the 3rd Tuesday

C.A.S.T. (Catholic Adult Singles Together)
CAST is a social group for, singles in the
Des Moines Diocese. A small percentage of members are not Catholic. Officer meetings are held monthly at various times and
locations. There are over 350 members. Regular Activities include weekly volleyball at 7:30pm, Mondays at Visitation Parish
and at 7:30pm on Thursdays at Rex Mathes School. Basketball is played weekly at 6pm at Visitation. Masses are held monthly
at various churches. A newcomers social is held as well as dances throughout the year. Funding is provided through dues.

Widows and Widowers
We are group of Catholics who have lost a spouse and have gathered together in faith and social friendship. We meet
the 4th Tuesday of the month at St. Augustin’s for our monthly meetings. We have luncheons, dinners, potluck, and even
picnics. We go to movies, Ingersol Dinner Theater and share many other activities. We carpool for those who don’t care
to drive. We have a membership of about 40 and are looking forward to having others in the Diocese join us.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word
At the 8:30 a.m.
and 10:00 a.m. masses, all children between the ages of five and twelve will have the opportunity to participate in Children’s
Liturgy of the Word. The Liturgy of the Word with Children speaks to the children at their developmental level, proclaiming
the Word and telling the stories of God’s everlasting relationship of love with us in language easily understood by

Christ Renews His Parish
CRHP, is a retreat weekend. There is a men's weekend
and a women's weekend held in the fall and in the spring. The retreat is on parish grounds and is an overnight experience.
This is a wonderful way to meet other parishioners and learn more about your faith and yourself. Grow in your Love of the

Cub Scouts
Cub Scouts is an
organization of Boy Scouts of America that involves boys in the first through fifth grades. The goals of the Cub Scout program
are to help parents and community organizations help boys by positively influencing character development and spiritual growth,
encouraging good sportsmanship, and helping boys develop habits and attitudes of good citizenship. A Cub Scout den will involve
the boys in a group of peers his own age where he can earn status and recognition. At the end of Cub Scouts (5th grade) boys

Rite Of Christian
Initiation Of Adults (RCIA)
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the process the Catholic Church has implemented to welcome and help non-baptized
and baptized persons from other Christian traditions join our church and communal life in the parish through the sacraments
of initiation which are Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. Many people actively participate in addition to those who wish
to join the Church, such as RCIA Team members, sponsors, spouses, and fiancées. At St. Pius X the process includes
Tuesday meetings, Sunday Breaking Open the Word (during mass) and a retreat during Lent. All of us have a role to play as
baptized members by our words, actions, and attitudes. If you or someone you know may be interested in RCIA, you are encouraged

Social Justice
Social Justice Social Justice activities at St. Pius X Include meetings
at 7pm on the 3rd Monday of each month. We discuss and plan Salvation Army casserole collections, and other formation processes,
work being done by the Des Moines Area Religious Committee, actions by American Friends Service and other peace organizations.

St. Vincent dePaul’s goals are to
help the poor and the needy in Des Moines area through food and rent\utility funding, Operation Santa Claus and a retail thrift
store. The. St. Pius group is part of a larger national group. They meet the 2nd Monday of the month in the parish center

Teams
of Our Lady
Teams
of Our Lady is a family-oriented spiritual growth program. Three to six couples and a chaplain meet in each other's homes
monthly to pray, discuss a topic and share blessing and concerns. In addition to the monthly meetings, there is an annual
retreat. TOOL is an international organization that has been active at St. Pius since 1989. Contact: Doug and Melissa

USA Urbandale -Pastoral Care
A group of volunteers visit USA Urbandale Nursing Home each week to provide spiritual support and faith
sharing with approximately 25 Catholic patients. Each Tuesday, a Eucharist Prayer Service is held for the residents that are
able to attend. Eucharist Ministers then go to the bedsides to offer Eucharist and prayers to those who are unable to attend.
On the third Wednesday of the month, Father celebrates mass with residents and then visits with each one. The volunteers help
get the residents to their rooms and offer support. The need for additional volunteers is great. If you are interested in

Wednesday Night Faith Formation
Children in grades
1 through 8 attend faith formation classes on Wednesday evenings from 5:00 - 6:15 p.m. or 6:45 - 8:00 p.m. in the
Educational Building. Christian Living which teaches basic doctrines and reviews them every year. Scripture is integrated
into every lesson, as well as traditional doctrines, prayers and practices of the Church. Major feasts and seasons are celebrated,
including Feast of St. Francis, St. Nicholas, Advent, Lent, Easter, and Holy Days. Additional lessons on Bible skills, the
